from a thrifted book about flower arrangements. also i just came in to see jason asleep like this, i thought he looked very cute. i am cultivating his poodle tail to be a giant poof, it's almost the same size as his head. it's like those snakes that have an eye design on their tails, predators may go for the wrong side first giving him just enough time to escape.

New in the shop today! Holy cats, New York is HOT! the fire hydrants are all open and spraying the streets around my neighborhood. Jason and I are safely air conditioned, he likes to stretch out on the cool tile of the kitchen floor. I took him swimming for the first time the other day, he jumped right into the lake and splashed around for a minute, then he panicked and I had to carry him out. I don't remember summer being this intense, maybe I've just forgotten.

While walking around the antique mall this chalk drawing caught my eye, I don't know why I liked it so much but I did! I tried to bargain the guy down a bit, he was asking a lot for it, unfortunately he would hardly budge. I had to leave without it but I won't soon forget those glowing orange eyes.

I did leave with this belt, the two hearts latch together, I thought it was pretty amazing.

A preview of what is going into the shop today, the amazing thing about it is that a lot of it is deadstock and all of the clothing pictured here is mainly cotton.

Here's some more weird thrift store scenes, a framed photo of a crazy still life and a Revolutionary War couch. Taken with my cell phone, hence the blurry quality. I had such a successful thrifting trip today I am totally overwhelmed. So many pictures to take, if it were daylight I would start right now. It was so nice today, at one point Mazzy Star came on the radio as I passed by the big mowers cutting the grass along the side of the highway. I breathed in the scent of fresh cut grass and it really felt like summer.

I just watched the season premiere of True Blood and there was a scene which caught my attention, it was with Jason Stackhouse in Merlottes, I thought I recognized the shirt he was wearing. I got up and looked into my stash of vintage clothing and held it up to the TV, it's the same shirt! It's in my shop right now.

Here is the crazy story I promised, it just concluded, I was waiting for the end before I could write about it. So, on Friday night just before falling asleep I suddenly thought about the movie "I Woke up Early the Day I Died," it was made from the last script Ed Wood ever wrote, he died before ever filming the movie. It was made in the late 90's and it wasn't in the theatre much. The significance it holds for me is that on the first night I ever hung out with my ex boyfriend we attempted to see this movie but someone posted the wrong day on the theatre website and we missed the one night it was showing. We had driven all the way from Boston to New York to see it, Paul, Jonee and I, and instead we ended up having sandwiches at Kate's Joint and then we all went swimming in the dark in Jonee's parent's swimming pool in Greenwich. I remember buying a Fresh Samantha at the convenience store on the way back, remember those? Anyhow in the 11 years that have passed since I have never sought out that movie until Friday night, it suddenly just popped into my mind out of the blue and led me on an extensive internet search. I could not find it anywhere besides small clips on youtube. I called Jonee and he said that he has a bootleg somewhere of it that I can borrow sometime. Anyhow, this week I have been selling stuff on Craigslist, I had a lamp for sale and I finally got a response on Saturday morning, when I read the name on the email it struck me as being vaguely familiar. I typed it into google and found out the man has an IMDB page. I scrolled down through the list of all the movies he has been a cinematographer for and I saw one title highlighted a different color because I had clicked on it the night before. So he was the cinematographer for I Woke up Early the Day I Died. He wrote to me within hours of my obsessing over the movie. He just came to pick up the lamp and I asked him about it, he laughed and said that it was so long ago but yes, that was him. Such a startling coincidence, I could hardly believe it. It gave me the chills.

I had a request for more pictures of the weird stuff that goes on in thrift stores, I thought this window display was pretty great. He looks so serious and sad from the outside. Anyways the craziest CRAZIEST thing ever just happened but I will write about it tomorrow, like my mind is blown. More later.

I was searching everywhere on the internet for this movie, I could only find small clips like this on youtube. It has always had my favorite movie title ever. I still haven't seen it but while I was watching this I was impressed by the song and I sought out the video for it:

Here is his cover of Jolene

In other news i have had a rough week for a multitude of reasons,
one of them being that I found out in a rather upsetting manner that I have
been replaced at my freelance job. I have been out looking for work and it's
really a daunting task. If anyone out there knows of any work in the New York
area I would be so grateful if you could let me know about it, contact me at
my email address: vampiremeadow@gmail.com. Thanks!
