A fringed motorcycle jacket, denim shorts, etienne aigner boots and a pair of Ferragamo heels! I went thrift shopping with Josh yesterday, we tried to find old metal t-shirts to no avail. When we were driving the moon was really huge in the sky, he called it the Harvest Moon but I knew that would be in the fall, I found out today that the moon tonight is called the "Full Snow Moon." the moon in March is called the "Full Worm Moon" which is pretty weird, I like it though.

New in the shop today, some size x-small - small vintage leather, it is all deadstock and never worn before.

I was also totally psyched about this fur coat, I love the grey and white triangles, its pretty amazing.

Then there is this 1960s charcoal grey and red dress with matching belt, the material is wool.

And last but not least, a 1970s mini skirt with a pattern of flying unicorns! Who could have imagined such a thing? It is so rad I can't believe it.

Just listed in the shop today! The cat sweater has the original G. Fox tags still attached to it. G. Fox used to be the big department store in Connecticut, it disappeared in the early 90s. When I was growing up my best friend's dad was the vice president of the store, at least I think that was what he was, he was something really important there. One day when I was about 10 years old I got off the school bus and as I was walking home I noticed there was a black stretch limo outside of her house, I was so totally intrigued. It turned out that Muhammed Ali had stopped by to visit her dad that day. Ali had a launch party at the store for a cologne he was coming out with, her dad couldn't make it to the party because he unfortunately had cancer so Ali came by the house to say hello. It was super cool of him, I think of that every time I see a G. Fox tag.

All new in the shop! In other news I woke up yesterday to the sound of fire engines, I hear them often but half asleep I realized they were extra loud and seemed to stop right outside of my apartment. I went to the window and saw people running down the street. Then I looked out the back window in my kitchen and saw that the house two doors down was on fire! They have a lot of cars in the yard of that house all the time, when I walked by after it was over I could see the skeletons of burnt out cars, it was eerie.

All new in the shop! I took a short break tonight from listing new stuff, I just finished reading the book The Hunger Games. I borrowed it from my sister-in-law. It was so good. I couldn't stop reading it, I can't wait to get the second book in the series to start next.

New in the shop! I know it's like 0 degrees outside but that plaid romper is super cute. In other news, has anyone else watched the show Downton Abbey? Valerie told me to watch it and I finally did, I am addicted. I cry every episode, I'm very easily moved to tears. The clothing they wear on the show is also very amazing. I heard an interview with some of the actors on NPR, they said that what they wear is all reproductions of vintage clothing. I recommend the show if you haven't seen it yet.

All new in the shop today! That bark cloth fabric sold already but I'm posting it here because it is so pretty. It's about 7 yards, it sold like 30 seconds after I listed it, it was a new record for me. And Winter seems to have really arrived today, it is so cold out right now. I just hope it doesn't ever snow on any of the days I have scheduled to go thrift shopping this season.

I thrifted this black cat the other day, I was so psyched because I collect these little made in Japan animals and I hadn't found one in forever. I hope everyone had a good holiday, mine was good. I ate jello and then I felt weird about it. I never eat fake food but my family makes jello layered with cool whip at every holiday so it was just sitting there looking so delicious. My brother hooked up a surround sound system at my parent's house and then we watched Firefly, one of my favorite shows ever. Now I am back home and it is pouring rain outside, Jason is curled up asleep under the kitchen table. This note from 1968 was in the pocket of the coat in the top photo, it reads:

The question I have is what was it doing in a woman's coat pocket? Did she change her mind after writing it and not leave the note? Or is she another woman who found the note at the door and took it so Don would never get it? We will never know.

All new in the shop! What else is new, I was in New Jersey the other day, it was totally weird. I promised to help my dad pick up some furniture in exchange for a ride home to Brooklyn. We went to pick it all up in this gated community, that was what was so weird about it. All the houses were nearly identical, the lawns were all mowed to the exact same height and everything was white and beige. The sidewalks were so clean, there wasn't a single speck of flattened chewing gum or even a dead leaf on the ground. A lady came out to get the mail from her mailbox in her white slippers, thats how clean the ground was. It made me think of Celebration Florida, I recall there was an old X-Files episode about that place. Yikes.

I really wanted a vintage one but I couldn't find one that I liked that wasn't crazy expensive so I got this new model, it's pretty cool though. I love that it has wheels at the bottom, I can spin it around to take photos from every angle.

All new in the shop! I love the sweater in the first photo, the person who knitted it signed the tag with her name, it's really cool. What else is new, I finally went to the dentist the other day for the first time in years, I was sure I had so many cavities, my teeth were killing me. So they x-rayed and checked my teeth, it turns out I have no cavities at all, I just grind my teeth in my sleep. I need to chill out. When I was leaving the dentist asked if I had any dental insurance, I said no and he paused and then said that the visit was free, he told me to save my money and come back for a teeth cleaning. It was so nice of him. Speaking of chilling out, I bought a groupon for yoga a while back and I still haven't used it, I really need to go. Micheal K of dlisted called someone "a walking expired groupon coupon" the other day and it made me laugh. I can't even remember who it was.

I went thrift shopping this week, I rented a car for several days and made a list of places I had never been to before, I drove north searching for the holy grail. I found a couple of good places, some of them were a total bust. I drove through some towns that were so depressing I can't believe anyone even lives there, everything was so bleak and gray, trash blowing all over the place and empty storefronts everywhere. I also drove through really pretty areas with farms and well kept old houses, the landscape kept changing so drastically from one thing to another. At one place I noticed this shelf full of unicorns, I thought "Wow, someone must have really been into unicorns!" and then I looked at the shelf below and saw more. They were arranged in formation just like that, it's like they are ready for something, I don't know what.

All new in the shop tonight! The dress at the top has real feather trim, it's really cool. All week I worked at my freelance job, it was terrible. My arms have cuts all over them from hanging metal christmas garland, my metabolism is awry after not being allowed to eat lunch until 3 or 4 in the afternoon. My jeans are covered in glitter and my coat smells like the scent they pump into the air in the store to subvert your subconscious into buying things, it's noxious. I will take fresh air over perfume any day. All week I kept forgetting to set my alarm, I repeatedly woke up 20 minutes before I was supposed to leave and then rush out the door, I would look down at myself on the subway and realize that I was wearing totally mismatched socks. It was not the world I want to live in. It's going to take me awhile to recover, freelancing is for the birds.

New jackets and coats in the shop!

Jason jumped into a photo as the automatic timer was going off, he was telling me to hurry up so that we could go on his lunchtime walk.

Oh and this coat below is really amazing, I believe it is from the 1930s, it was made by Arnold Constable. I researched the name and found this on wikipedia:

"Arnold Constable & Company is a former department store chain in the New York City metropolitan area. At one point it was the oldest department store in America, operating for over 150 years from its founding in 1825 to its closing in 1975. Everything about it is cool, the buttons, the gold rope trim, the scalloped velvet collar and the amazing fit.

All new in the shop! As I was walking home today and I passed by this woman who was shouting at her dog for stepping in a puddle, it was a little bright white shaggy dog with a pink sweatshirt on. What caught my attention though was it's name, it was the worst name for a pet I have ever heard, it's name was Sexy! It was disturbing and odd at the same time. Jason sounds so normal in comparison.

All new in the shop tonight! I went thrift shopping with my friend Genevieve yesterday, it was really fun. It's always interesting to go with someone new, it gives me a new perspective on how to look for things. She found those amazing grey suede oxfords, I would so love for those to be my size. All the size 7 - 7 1/2 girls are so lucky when it comes to vintage shoe shopping, there are always so many amazing shoes in those sizes.

So one of my most favorite recent thrift store finds are these shorts, when I saw them I thought "please fit me please fit me please fit me!" and they did! In other news yesterday I spent the afternoon with my friend Valerie. Her son Alden is pretty funny, when we were on the subway she asked him "What is the name of our stop?" he replied "Pizza Street!" I got a honey latte at the Wyckoff Starr and then we ducked into the Hana deli to wait out a torrential rain storm. Then we went to her house to gossip while she cooked spaghetti sauce from scratch.

New in the shop today! I had a busy past couple of weeks, I worked at my freelance job and then my sister got married. I was a bridesmaid, it was really fun. I sipped champagne in a limo, ate hors d'oeuvres and met relatives I had never met before. I will post some photos once I get them.

Here is a new outfit photo, I am wearing my favorite vintage finds from this week. The shoes were made by Qualicraft, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw them sitting on the shelf in the thrift strore, in my size and just waiting for me to take them home. The dress is cool too, it has wooden toggle buttons going up the front. Jason was lurking in the background while I was taking these photos, I picked him up for one. Here I am feeling a little like Jane Goodall except with a poodle instead of a monkey.

I just added these to the shop today, they are Bottega Veneta and fit a size 7 1/2. they were missing laces so I went to the Garment District this afternoon and found matching leather to make laces out of. Sometimes I am amazed when I go there, I was looking for a replacement for an unusual vintage button and I found the exact button there. Besides that, someone stole the garbage cans from my apartment building! I've lived here for two years and we never had trash cans, we got them for the first time just a month ago. They were chained to the wall outside with pretty heavy chains, someone sawed them off. Who the hell even steals a trash can? How totally gross.

Some new items in the shop today, the purse just sold but I love it so I'm showing it anyways. I went out last night to some art openings and a couple of parties, it was really fun. I saw Ben Stiller standing in front of a Neo Rauch painting and his wife used the bathroom after me at a gallery. I met Kara Walker! My friend is her assistant and introduced us. I went to a party at Creatures of Comfort and another at Oak. We then had Sashimi on St Marks Place, I drank way too much wine and and it all turned into a blur.

Lots and lots of new shoes in the shop today. I have been on the lookout lately for rain boots, I notice that people have been frequently coming to my shop with that search term so I'm trying to stock up. It was intense driving in the rain yesterday, it took forever to get home. I was in a rental car doing to my regular thrift shopping trip, it got off to a really rocky start. I had just driven about four blocks away from the car rental place and I was sitting at a red light behind a van. Waiting for the light to change, I was startled when the van started to back up on a sharp angle, he abruptly decided to back into the parking space to my left. It was on a one way street, a whole line a cars were waiting behind me so I couldn't back up to give him any room. I was wide eyed watching it happen, I knew there wasn't enough room and couldn't understand what he was thinking. I started honking the horn as loud as I could, I was yelling at him to stop but his windows were rolled up. Suddenly there was a loud "Crack!" and I was horrified as I watched him hit my car! I am normally a quiet person but when I got out I began yelling at him. I asked him if he was deaf! I was so mean! He didn't have anything to say at all, he just stood there. I got out and walked around to the front of the car to see what happened, it looked like his car took all the damage. It looked like the license plate frame on the front of my car caught on the front of his car and tore the bumper off, cracking it in two. It was surreal, his demeanor was so passive, he didn't seem to particularly care. We talked for a moment and since there were no dents on the car I was in I left. I was so shaken up though, I just couldn't understand why he ignored me when I was trying to get him to stop backing up, it was so slow motion and strange. People are just so weird.

He was an outlaw in the 1800's who built his own suit of armor for a shoot out with the police. I had never heard of him, apparently there is a movie about him starring Mick Jagger and a song about him by Johnny Cash.

New items in the shop today. I LOVE the long dress at the top, its cotton and from the 1970s, it can fit a whole range of sizes due to the loose fit. Anyways, there was a hurricane that just happened this past week, I heard they were shutting down the subways in New York in preparation for it so I went to CT for the weekend. Then I got stuck there because the metro north train tracks were flooded. All the basements were flooded, a frog jumped in through the window of my brother's basement and it was hopping around in the water. My sister-in-law Jenny was swinging a broom at it so to help I googled what to do when a frog gets into your house. I read that frogs go to the bathroom a lot and that their excrement looks just like rat poop. When I relayed that information to her from the top of the stairs it caused her to freak out even more. I saw lots of downed trees, some even crushing houses. I went to a thrift store where the power was out and they were taking cash only. It was weird to shop in the dark.

So now I am in Brooklyn and it's back to normal. I just got back from taking Jason for a walk, when I entered my building I paused at a strange object on the floor right inside the doorway. It took me a moment to realize it was three quarters of a charred hot dog that someone must have stepped on crushing it into the rug. My building never ceases to gross me out, every day there is something new. Someday I will live somewhere nice. Someday!

All new in the shop today! I am trying to list more Fall items lately, I have been gravitating towards an early eighties new england vibe. Navy blue, tan, plaid, basically things that look like they could be LL Bean. Besides that last night I had dinner at Josh and Joya's apartment in Park Slope, Joya is an amazing cook. She cooked vegan chorizo sausage from scratch, polenta, and broccoli rabe. Then they made chocolate peanut butter ice cream with their ice cream maker. It blew my mind! I should make more of an effort to cook I've realized, it was really inspiring. They also lent me book one of the Game of Thrones series which I started reading on the train. I am very lucky to have such rad friends.

Some recently listed items in the shop! In other news yesterday was my birthday, it was super fun. I got a manicure, had vietnamese food with my friend Josh and then had drinks with Valerie and Bree. We went to a place called Nights and Weekends and I loved it, I had a drink that was so good, it was made from oronoco rum, passionfruit puree, cocchi americano, lime and velvet falernum. I didn't really know what half the ingredients were but it was delicious.

I found this scrapbook yesterday in a thrift store, it is mainly full of cats, there are a few pages of bears as well. It's from the 1940s. I love old scrapbooks, I was so psyched to find this one. Right after we left the thrift store I was driving and came to a sign that said the road was closed and it pointed towards a detour down a road I had never been on. On that road we passed a street sign that said "Bee Mountain Road" and it made me wish I lived on a street with a name as good as that one.

Yesterday was weird, I woke up super tired from having lost lots of sleep due to my neighbors fighting at 4 am on the other side of my bedroom wall. I was so angry about it, I eventually fell back asleep and had angry dreams. When I woke up I was so out of it. I took Jason outside so that he could go to the bathroom, he usually pees right away on either the pay phone or the street sign outside our front door. I was standing there waiting for him to go completely oblivious to the fact that someone was being arrested only a few feet away. As I realized it I looked around and saw a silent crowd of people gathered watching. A man was in handcuffs and four police officers were there, one was pushing down on the man's head to get him into the back seat of the cop car. He was yelling "I just woke up, I just left my house!" I guess he was saying he hadn't had enough time to commit a crime? Living here I hardly even notice anything anymore.

My head spun around and I had to think for a second about what he was saying. I don't know them but I thought to myself it was just about the worst band name almost ever. I can't say ever because I'm sure there is worse.

New in the shop today! My favorite is the black velvet dress. So anyways this week I am going to travel for work to Washington D.C. and I am weirdly excited about it. It will be quick, just there and back on the acela train. I've been there lots in the past, mostly visiting my friend Valerie when she used to live there. It was always an all day road trip to get there starting from Boston, it will be strange to get there so quickly on the train. I remember hanging out with Valerie's rabbit Frances Swimmingpool, Krissy smoking cigarettes in the front seat of the car and going to see the Make-up play at the Black Cat, I don't think it gets any more D.C. than that. For this job I am going to go straight from the train station to the Mayflower hotel, it's famous mostly for political sex scandals which is interesting I suppose. Jason is staying at my mom's house for the next few days, I miss him terribly. I can't wait to see him when I get back, we have very dramatic reunions.

New in the shop this week! I am feeling a little better now than I was earlier, I hope next week will be better. It has been so hot, the heat has really been affecting me more than ever. The sun feels relentless. I hate wearing sunblock so I try to walk in the shade. I've been reading a lot lately, I always seem to read more in the summer. I am currently reading "Devil in the White City" by Erik Larson and "Mildred Pierce" by James M. Cain. They are both totally good.

I found this in the drawer of a thrift store desk, I think that they look kind of menacing for a sheet of stickers. Anyways something totally weird happened this week, it happened on the Fourth of July. I was hanging out in a park in Greenpoint Brooklyn, Mcgolrick park, I was with Bree, Pat, Rich and Mia and we were waiting for it to get dark for the fireworks to start. We ended up watching them from Bree and Pat's rooftop, they have an amazing view of the Manhattan skyline. At some point I realized something had bitten me on the side of my leg and I thought it was a mosquito, I am usually a magnet for them. It was driving me crazy but I just tried to ignore it thinking that it would fade in a few hours like a normal bite. The next day I woke up not feeling well at all, I had to run a lot of errands and as I was walking around outside I got the worst headache and I was so lightheaded and tired, I thought it was because of the heat. I couldn't wait to get home. Later on in the day I looked down at my leg where the bite was and I saw a big bull's eye rash. I knew exactly what that meant right away and I freaked out, I knew that I must have gotten bitten by a deer tick! I panicked trying to get to the train so that I could see a doctor as soon as I could, I imagined that I was going to turn into a zombie at any moment. It looks like I most likely have Lyme Disease, I have to take antibiotics for 28 days to lessen the severity of it. It's so strange that it happened in an urban area, I seriously never thought that was possible, I always thought it was something you could get in the woods of Connecticut. I'm glad that I caught it so fast, if I hadn't noticed the bull's eye I would have just thought that I was run of the mill sick. It was a small window of time that it showed itself, I noticed it at 5 in the afternoon and it was faded and gone by midnight.

New in the shop today! This shirt has a matching cut out pattern in the front and in the back, I haven't ever really seen anything like it before.

I have a new story, it's about finding someone on the internet. I was reminded of my cousin the other day, she is about 10 years older than me and when I was little I thought she was the coolest person ever. She used to live in Rhode Island, when we would visit there I remember being mesmerized by all her cool stuff. The furniture in her bedroom was all white wicker, she had a white wicker vanity with photos of her boyfriend stuck into the edges of the mirror. She had a faux bear skin rug and lots of make up and clothes. This was the 1980s so she had a perm and would wear bows in her hair. I wasn't allowed to get a perm but I would try to mimic her with the bows. After high school she went on to become a hairdresser. The last time I saw her I was 14 and she and her family were about to move to Florida, afterwards I heard stories about her getting into trouble but I haven't seen or spoken to her since. It occurred to me the other day that she could be on facebook and that I should find her, I don't know why I didn't think of it sooner. I got carried away in my mind thinking about how we would catch up on things, it's been so long. I could not find her on facebook so then I googled her mom's name and from there I found my cousin's married last name. She still wasn't on facebook so I did a google image search, the first photo that came up was her, I could tell even though she looks a lot older and pretty different. I clicked on it and realized it was a mug shot. I kept looking, basically a google image search of her name is a gallery of different mugshots, she seems to have been arrested a lot. In one of them she is laughing. I was so amazed that I had found her that I couldn't believe it but then then the realization sunk in that I don't think we will be catching up anytime soon.

It is so totally summer right now, all the neighborhood kids have got the fire hydrants open and I can smell the gas from people grilling on the sidewalk. People seem to go crazy at the start of the hot weather, or maybe they stay crazy all summer long, I can't remember. Last night on my way to a bbq I was surrounded by a group of girls on the street. I was carrying beer in my fieldguided tote bag, (which I love by the way) they asked me to stop so that they could read what it said on the bag. I did stop thinking that they were genuinely interested. I have the one that says "flowers are the things we know secrets are the things we grow" it is a quote from a nancy sinatra & lee hazelwood song. The girl who seemed to be the leader (who was also pushing a baby in a stroller) read it all aloud and then sarcastically said "Awwwww how cute!" It was then that I realized they were mocking me! It was so weird! She pretended to ask her friend for a pen so that she could write it down, then they all laughed! I really didn't care, I just found it so odd.

AHHHH! Look at these shoes, are they not amazing?! Never worn, 1970s navy blue and white platform sandals, size 6 1/2. I am in love with them.

Besides the shoes, something else happened, last night at around 3 am Jason puked on my laptop. It was sitting closed on the floor with my cellphone next to it, he managed to puke on them both. I quickly cleaned it up but when I tried to turn it on it would just not start. I brought it to the apple store this morning feeling heartsick and of course they had bad news, they said it would cost $750 for them to try to fix it, it was not a guarantee that it would work either. The guy was like yeah, you should just get a new one. I owned it just a little more than a year so it was very distressing to look at the laptops for sale as they were exactly the same. They tried to talk me into apple care but it does not cover liquid damage which is what always happens to computers that I own, I said no thanks. It was already a stretch to get another. Now I am struggling to get my photos edited, the Iphoto on this one is super weird and different. I need to be more careful with things. It was so odd that he woke up to throw up right there, on all my important things. At least my crappy cell phone is fine, it's amazing that what destroyed the computer didn't effect the phone at all.

Some new items in the shop today! Let's see, whats new, I worked a lot at my freelance job last week and it wasn't so bad, Erika and I found a new juice truck that parks outside our building and we realized it is the best thing ever. They sell just plain juice and smoothies with real fruit, it's not like jamba juice in a styrofoam cup (that place makes me really mad) I got a cucumber - celery - lemon juice and she got a watermelon - coconut smoothie. We were extra charmed by the fact that they write "meoww" on the cups with a sharpie! And they were only $4! I wish that truck was everywhere. I am also excited about other things, for one I just bought a plane ticket to LA. I am so excited, I can't wait. I am imagining that it will be all parties and cake and ice coffees and I don't know what else. I have really high expectations for this trip. I have been mentally packing a suitcase everyday. Then when I get back we are going to take another cooking class, this time we are learning how to make vegan tamales. I am very much looking forward to the month of June.

When I was walking around yesterday I saw this cat hanging out on the sidewalk, it cracks me up when cats and dogs lay around with their back legs straight out, it looks so ridiculously comfortable. A moment later he jumped up to pounce on that pigeon feather in front of him.

I have been listing as many new items in the shop as I can, my apartment has become overwhelming, I need to make some room! I think I made a lot of progress today. Besides that I have been drinking a lot of smoothies lately, ever since my juicer broke. My favorites are cucumber - mint - pineapple and banana - blueberry- peanut butter - almond milk. I'm addicted.

New in the shop today! Oh brother, yesterday I worked a 12 hour day setting up for an event at the Crosby St. Hotel (the room service there is gross by the way!) Anyways I got home around midnight and was so tired and hungry, I needed to eat something before I went to bed so I decided upon eating an orange. I left the orange peel on the counter and thought I should probably throw that away but I am too tired so I will do that in the morning. So I woke up this morning and walked out to the kitchen, the first thing I noticed was that the orange peel was gone, the whole thing! Something came in the night and took it away! I checked the trash just to make sure I hadn't forgotten throwing it away, it wasn't there. How scary is that? I was trying to picture a mouse carrying it away, it would have been bigger than the mouse. I bought some steel wool today to put in the hole in the wall that I suspect is behind my oven. I was so disturbed by it, I wanted to call someone right then to tell them about it but then realized it wasn't very important news.

New in the shop today! That jean jacket at the top is super amazing, someone hand made it by altering a regular jean jacket and adding parts of a navajo blanket to it. It even has the date it was made inside, it was made in 1992.
