One of my favorite recent thrift store finds is this wool plaid shirt by Woolrich, it's really warm and I love the colors.

Some of my other best recent finds are below, an art deco tooled leather purse, a crochet top and an amazing checkered plaid skirt.

new in the shop, a vintage wintergreen wool rothschild coat, size xs

New in the shop today! Sorry for the radio silence this week, I was working at my freelance job and had no time for anything else. It was a rough week. The whole time I'm there I check the clock to see if it's getting close to the time to go home. I daydream about other places I'd rather be. I don't want to complain about it too much because I am grateful to have freelance employment and the freedom it allows, I am just always so glad when the project is over with. I'm just so glad to be back to listing vintage in my shop, you have no idea!

New in the shop tonight, an amazing pair of 40s - 50s navy blue wedges embroidered with birds and a really cute floral bag. I've been drawn to things with a vacation theme lately, day dreaming I guess. I went away to Connecticut for a few days this weekend, when I got back home to Brooklyn I put the key in the front door to my apartment and realized it was open, I panicked for a moment and then slowly went inside. The first thing I looked for was my computer, it was still there, my TV was there too. I don't really own anything else of obvious value so I let out a sigh of relief. Then I noticed the windowsill in my kitchen, my plants which are usually there were placed on the floor in front of it, a couple of candles were laying on their sides knocked to the floor, the window latch was unlocked. I would never leave that window unlocked and I knew for sure I didn't put any plants on the floor. I started to panic again. I called my landlord, I thought it may have been him because he is totally weird but he didn't answer the phone. I looked around some more and noticed a plant that normally sits next to the kitchen sink was knocked over into the sink, it was dead. My anxiety level went through the roof. I am a really private person so the thought of anyone coming inside without my knowledge made me crazy. A few hours later I finally got in touch with him, he said he was in the building a few days ago with his plumber who was there to fix something next door, he said he noticed my door was open so he walked in. I guess he had been trying to get into the apartment next door but they weren't home, he went out my window that leads to the fire escape to get into that apartment through their fire escape window. It didn't make very much sense to me. He said he assumed I was out walking my dog. I don't know how it happened that my door was unlocked in the first place, I guess maybe I forgot to lock it when I left, I can't imagine doing that though. It was unnerving to think my apartment was unlocked for days, I'm just glad there was nothing worse than a dead plant.

I just listed this in the shop, I love the pattern up close.
About 3 months ago I mailed a package to Europe, it was a cardboard box filled with vintage clothing inside. A little while after I got an email from the customer wondering where it was, I told them that it had been mailed already and that they should check their post office to see if it was there, I said I would keep an eye out for it on my end in case it came back. I never heard back from them again, I assumed they had eventually received it. So the other day the package came back, it had a notice on it that said it was never claimed at the receiver's post office. It was an unusually long time for it to be in limbo, I was totally surprised to see it again. Another shock was what was inside the box, what I had originally sent was still in there but someone had opened the box and resealed it with some mysterious additions. There were several glass bottles filled with pills inside, the labels say they are herbal supplements. Just as perplexing there was also one small container of green tic tacs. I can't wrap my mind around why someone would place these things inside of my package, it makes absolutely no sense. It must have happened within the postal system either here or there, right? Another clue was that the writing on the labels of the supplements is in English, it made me wonder if the mystery postal tamperer is American. I suppose people speak English all over the world though so it's not much of a clue. I watch so much true crime television, I want to dust them for fingerprints and find a match for the person who did it! I guess I will never know. I just hope that it doesn't happen to any other packages of mine, if you get something from me with green tic tacs inside I didn't put them there!

New in the shop today! The weather is so dreary here, its been cloudy and raining for the past couple of days, the rain is melting all the sad snow that was left behind by the last storm. I really miss sunlight, the feel of it on my skin. I sit around thinking about it all the time lately. Im so pale I think I am turning translucent, its not really a good thing.

A couple of new dresses in the shop tonight!
My exciting vintage finds for this week include some awesome old paperback sci-fi books, the perfect size for reading on the subway.

A picture of cats coming out of a christmas present! I think they look kind of scared though.

Also I was lucky enough to find this vintage muff! It has a pocket and everything. When I was walking home last night I was wearing it and I thought it would be such a good place to hide something. I am always getting hassled by weirdos in the neighborhood, I thought to myself wow what a good place for pepper spray! I would be so quick on the draw. It's kind of depressing to think that way though. I should just think about ice skating with it.

Some new bags in the shop today!

I had great luck thrift shopping yesterday, I found this wool dress that I LOVE. As I was walking through the train station on my way out of the city the shoulder strap on my favorite purse snapped, I grabbed it off the ground and hurried onward to make my train, I got on with one minute to spare. Then I went to the Goodwill and saw this bag, it was perfect as a replacement. It doesn't really match my winter coat, that is ok though. I also found this book, I have several vintage poodle guides already but I can't resist them. The girl working at the thrift store register told me she has a poodle as well, an apricot one. That would be my second favorite poodle color. She said hers hates the snow, I told her mine loves it. Every time we step outside Jason seriously frolics through the snow, when we go on walks he prefers to walk on top of the snow banks along the sidewalk instead of the pavement.

I want this purse so badly! It's made by the brand Im:mortal. If only I didn't have so many speeding tickets!

Some new coats in the shop today!

January 06, 2011

I just added these shorts to the shop, I think they are the cutest. I really can't wait for warmer weather although I'm sure it's going to be a long time before I see it again. We are getting another snow storm tomorrow, even though I'm a little sick of winter I am actually kind of excited about it.

Some new and upcoming items for the shop. Some great plaids, the folded ones are either tablecloths or they could be used as blankets. A great vintage men's skinny square tie, a woolrich shirt with the original tags still attached, red wrangler acid wash jeans with the original tags still attached as well, an Irish fisherman's sweater, a 70s denim jacket with a flannel lined hood and last but not least an amazing plaid bag. All currently in the shop or soon to be.

I traveled far out to go thrift shopping yesterday, I rented a car and my friend Matt came along. The last time I went thrift shopping I got a speeding ticket so I was trying to be mindful of the speedometer as we drove along, it didn't matter though, I got another speeding ticket anyways! I was so sad, when I saw the cop pull out behind me I panicked, Matt was like don't worry, see? he is pulling over the car in front of you! I was relieved for one moment until the cop stuck his arm out the window and gestured for me to pull over as well as the other car. He ticketed both cars at the same time! I wasn't even going that fast, just normal highway speed, you know? I don't know yet what either ticket will cost, I had to mail in my plea of guilty and I guess they mail what I owe in a bill back to me. I fear it will be crazy expensive. I need a radar detector!
